Survey District Cadastral Map drawn from original survey data and sold for 5 shilling. The most of New Zealand was covered by this series of maps and were named NZMS13. It features subdivision and legal roads in straight lines and sections without reference to land slope or physical features. Large numbers of 10 and 50 acre sections were proposed to allow people to live on tiny farms.

Taiaroa Heads 1:6,336 Dunedin city. Two maps from military survey. Unpublished set of 28 maps. First topographic maps of Dunedin and part of project to establish coastal defences due to the Russian scare. Contours determined by W T Neill traversing the countryside with an altimeter that used atmospheric pressure to estimate height. 1896 cadastral map used as base map.

Two maps Dunedin and Mosgiel based on Neill military survey with some updates. Used colour scheme from UK maps of similar scale. Only maps in this series NZMS 36. Sold for 22 shillings (equivalent to $250 2023 dollars) so originals very rare. Used by military into the 1950s.

1951 Whites Aviation Port Chalmers.
Air photography became the way maps were made from World War Two. The surplus aircraft and pilot flying skills meant maps and air photos became available to the public at reasonable cost.

Made by USSR for military needs during cold war. There was a considerable amount of effort put in by soviet cartographers to map western countries.

1985 1:50,000 modern topographic map.
Radar and air photography used to determine contours and physical features. Hill shading adds three dimensional affect. Maps of 1:25,000 not produced due to extensive use of air photography on internet including google maps and DCC rates map.
