Antony Hamel

Antony is dedicated to achieving the best results for his clients. He likes to think about situations and let the most practical solutions dawn on him. It is to his financial detriment that he will not charge for thinking time when he is not at work, as he often has his best thoughts in the shower.

Antony studied law at the University of Otago in the 1980s. Sadly his father who was a respected Dunedin lawyer died in 1984 just as Antony was starting in the profession. Antony worked for two Dunedin law firms, then in 1993 he started in sole practice. Many of the families his father acted for are still clients.

Antony primarily works in variations of contract law, with the core of his practice being the purchasing and selling of residential houses. Antony has found that by acting for families over a long period of time, and often over a number of generations, assists greatly in solving problems. Antony understands that knowing his clients well and giving them personal service is very important. He has a good technical knowledge of the law and of Dunedin, this means that matters can be dealt with efficiently and quickly.

Antony published a home buyers guide and knows the Dunedin market well. Antony taught business law at Otago for many years and has a thorough understanding of businesses.

Digitally Antony has always been an early adapter; given concerns around privacy and the fear of our system being hacked Antony has taken to training Gilbert (or perhaps Myrtle), the resident pigeon, to deliver particularly sensitive documents. To date Myrtle has not been successful, but we continue to encourage her.
